Menzgold will not exist again – Deputy Finance Minister

Deputy Minister of Finance has hinted that the Gold dealership company, Menzgold will not be in business again in Ghana.

According to the Deputy Minister, after several cautions from the Bank of Ghana and the Security and Exchange Commission, Menzgold has not been able to produce any legitimate license to the regulators thereby making their activities in the financial sector illegal.

The Securities and Exchange Commission some few months ago wrote to Gold dealership company Menzgold to shut down all investment trading in gold

In a September 3, 2018 letter signed by Deputy Director General, Paul Ababio, said: “In September 2017, the SEC issued a public notice indicating that it does not regulate Menzgold. The SEC began to further investigations into the activities of Menzgold in July 2018. In August 2018, the Commission called for an inter-sectoral meeting that involved the Minerals Commission, Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Meeting concluded that it is evident Menzgold’s activities appear to go beyond the mandate authorised in its license”.

The letter from SEC added that failure by Menzgold to comply with the directive “will lead to the SEC employing other relevant measures under the law to enforce compliance.”

As a response to the letter from the Security and Exchange Commission, Menzgold on September 13, 2018, announced that it has temporarily halted its collectibles and any new business related to its gold vault market with immediate effect and since the halt of business, Menzgold not being able to resume till date.

Eventually, Menzgold on September 27, 2018, hauled the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to court over what it deemed as an unfair treatment being meted out to the company.

Menzgold in its suit is seeking an order from the court to halt these two state institutions from interfering in its business and operations. The gold dealership company is also asking the court to stop the BoG and the SEC from further publishing what it described as “derogatory notices” against its business.

However, speaking at a JoyBusiness Financial Service Forum themed “The Changing Tide of Ghana’s Financial Service Sector: The Cause, The Cost, the Clean up” monitored by Ghanatalksbusiness.com, Deputy Finance Minister, Charles Adu Boahen disclosed that “With the Menzgold issue, I think it is clear that the end is here. He is done”

He also cautioned that irrespective of the fact that, Menzgold’s activities have been terminated, the Management must pay every depositor’s money without fail.

Many has linked his death to Member of Parliament for Assin South, Kennedy Agyapong mainly because he made a statement publicly that the Late Ahmed should be dealt with by anybody for a handsome reward when his photographs with him was circulated in his ‘who watches the watchman’ anti-Anas video documentary.

WATCH VIDEOS: Lead Investigator of Anas’ Tiger Eye PI allegedly sh0t D£AD in Madina

An investigator with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI has allegedly been shot dead by gunmen in Madina.

The investigator, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, was notably exposed by Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong in the aftermath of the #Number12 exposé on corruption in Ghana football.

He was reportedly killed by two gunmen on a motorbike who shot into the car he was driving.

Anas, in a message on Facebook announced the death, saying Ahmed was hit three times; twice in the chest and once in the neck following which he died on the spot.

This is the third of such an incident in which an individual has been shot and killed by unknown assailants where nothing was taken from the deceased.

The most recent case was the killing of the Public Affairs Manager of the Tema Port, who was found stabbed and killed in her bedroom last Sunday.

In a war of words with the investigative journalist in July 2018, Mr. Agyapong went on a show on the TV station he owns, the Madina-based Net 2 TV, and urged residents to beat up Ahmed whenever they saw him.

A photo of Ahmed was also revealed on the show. Citi News sources say he was the lead investigator of the Tiger Eye PI team in the Number 12 exposure on corruption in Ghana football.

He is reported to be the investigator who arranged the meeting with former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi in Ghana and abroad.

But no link has been drawn between the MPs call to violence and the Wednesday evening murder.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in a video on his Facebook page, presented the announcement of his colleague’s murder within the context of Mr. Agyapong urging residents of Madina to go after Ahmed.

The journalist has also spoken to Graphic Online about the incident

“He was just shot and killed, nothing was taken from him”, another member of the Anas’ team told Graphic Online.

The police is however yet to comment on the matter, although his remains have been deposited at the Police Hospital.

Mr. Agyapong has been criticised for inciting violence against Anas and his team.

The MP accused the investigator of being corrupt and evil in the wake of his probe into Ghana football.

He also said Anas deserved to be hanged for his purported corrupt deeds.

Reporters Without Borders came out to say it was alarmed by threats to the life of Anas.

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the time also called for 24-hour protection for Anas.
